In May 2005 I purchased a Minolta Z2. It was a great camera on which I took about 5 or 6 thousand shots up until Tuesday the 20th when somehow I fried the electronics.
For Christmas I'll be using my old Olympus 3000C. Then I'll be savings for a new one. I could get another Minolta DiMage of some kind (cost between 3 and 4 hundred US Dollars) or save a little longer and get a Digital SLR with the basic lens. My son thinks that's what I should do. Of course that will probably take me until next Christmas.
The Olympus 3000C is a good camera but I have gotten used to be able to using the super macro on the Minolta. The closest I can get with the Olympus is about 8 or 9 inches.
So if any one a has a suggestion as to a digital SLR or a good "through the lens" digital that will take super macros as close as 1 or 2 inches) let me know.

I've got a Pentax istDS DSLR and since I got extention tubes I can make like super super macros.
I'd start saving for that SLR.

I agree with LV! Unless you have to go completely w/out a camera - I wouldn't buy another compact.
I got a Nikon D70s for Christmas with the stock lense and am very pleased with it so far. The D70 was Popular Photography's Camera of the Year in 2004. If that is a little too rich for you, consider looking at the D50. You lose some features, but it is a spectacular dslr for the price.
Like LV said - you can add extension tubes and get close enough to touch your subject.

On my canon300D with an old 38-76mm lens and some macrofilters in addition.

Wolfe's in Topeka, KS have a Dog Sale every February we went there Thrusday to see what they had in their adapter rings. I also wanted to see what they had in cameras on sale. They have a Pentax *istDL with two lenses (18-55mm and a 100-300mm promaster) for 700 plus tax. I liked the feel of it. Reminded me of some of the cameras my Dad had when I was young.
"Lensvison" uses the *istDS. Does anyone use this model? I think that I may be able to come up with the money before the sales is over.
