hi guys
need help deciding which best canon portrait lens to be used in low light?
either 85mm 1.8 or 50mm 1.4!
i already have the 50mm 1.8, but wanted something bit faster and sharper?
will be mainly children i will be doing.
are these good for outside taking group photos aswell?

The 50mm will give you getter low light performance ... and will be more use to you taking group shots. I'm surprised that you say you already have the 50mm 1.8 and want something sharper as the 1.8 is usually a pretty good lens, and you will probably find any difference between it and the 1.4 to be fairly minimal in most situations.
The 85mm is more of a tight in portraits lens, especially on a 1.6 crop factor camera like the 450d. It's very good used as a tight in portrait lens ....
Have you thought about a Canon 24 - 70 L F2.8? Very very good lens that covers the most useful range with good low light capabilities.

thanx for repying!
if you think i wont see much difference in the 1.4 i will prob stick to what ive got then, just thought it would be alot sharper with it being more expencive.
im afraid the 24-70 out of my price range at mo, but thanx for recommending and it will be something i will think about for the future!

I left a comment in your other thread but I agree with Miles.
