hey, a friend just gave me a copy of Photoscape from his collection of software and i absolutely am loving it. i've tried a few other free alternatives to Photoshop (like the Gimp), but none of them have really either worked well on my computer or they've had an interface that was not very user friendly. Photoscape is free software (which i wasn't sure of until i read in the terms of service that they're okay with you giving copies to friends, family, strangers on the street, etc. as long as it's not for commercial gain). it's pretty awesome and simple to use. it also has a few nifty things in it for film-lovers too, like the option to make the photo look like it was processed with specific types of film (like velvia, provia, and agfa). which is something i have yet to find in any other photo program. maybe CS3 has that sort of functionality, but there's a $600+ difference between the two programs.
definitely something worth checking out (hey, it costs you NOTHING!)
