the truth is
back in 1998 after my separation, i lost everything including my photographic gear, yes lights, cameras, backdrops, meters, everything. between moves to the storage, the ex, allowed our storage to be auctioned without letting me know. needless is to say i lost film, work and portfolios....
ten years later, i want to revive the old thing and start photoshooting again, doing weddings and portraits...has not been easy...
i want to offer doing a few weddings for peanuts to the dollar...i also like glamour and bphoto.
any ideas??? i need help

thanks in advance

Wedding market in the UK is getting saturated as more and more people with digital cameras suddenly decide to shoot cheap weddings, so I'm guessing that it's similar over there. Personally I can't stand shooting weddings although if the money was good enough I would do it, I guess that means I won't do them cheap!

Assuming you have all the gear, just start getting your name out there to your potential customers. Get some cards printed and leave them everywhere, super markets, wedding shops, anywhere where you might get seen. Get a professional looking website, as opposed to a "hey look at my shots" gallery one, where the emphasis is on what you can offer and why people should choose you as opposed to getting Uncle Tom to shoot the wedding on his new fangled digi-cam.

On portraits and glamour/portrait side of things, the world is full of people who hero worship the current batch of household name glamour models, and would love to follow in their shoes. There are numerous websites where such people can join up and advertise their services as models, and you can often get them to model for you on a TFP/TFCD basis to get yours (and their) portfolios off to a flying start. I just revamped my website and needed more people images that I could actually use... I NEVER post paying clients!... so have recently done a few TFCD shoots to fill up on usable images, all bar one were with unknown models who were looking for experience and some images to use, so all benefit.

It also helps you to get a name in the area ... either good or bad!

I am assuming you are in the Bay Area? I grew up there and now am up in far nor cal.

If you have studio space set up now maybe advertise to the schools or put an ad in the high school newspapers.

Maybe offer some example shots up or inexpensive sessions at first. Seniors and their parents will be shopping around for those services early in the year. After a few shoots word of mouth will do you volumes of good if your work and price warrants it.

Use craigs list too maybe

Just be sure you have an assistant with you or a parent attend for liability reasons. Good ole california and their sue happy mentality are a scary thing if working with young people.
