A Place for Unique Camera Questions

Unfortunately, along with a bit of R A, my Parkinson's is causing a slight tremor in my right hand (a tremor which had gone away but has returned). So - my question is simple. (Tripod aside obviously) what camera - I want to go up one notch from the Canon Rebel EOS which I love but is not handling the tremor that well, so many pix are out of focus - what camera in the $1,500 to $1,700 range, might be more "able" to help me with my shaky trigger finger.

It doesn't have to be a Canon, though I am partial - lol

Grateful for any advice,
Manny/Hamin

Depends how much weight affects the tremor I'd say, more expensive cameras will be much heavier.

Before you part with serious cash on a new camera pop down the camera store and try a canon lens with IS "image stabilisation" on your current camera, not only might this be the answer, but you'll also be getting a way better lens!

Also ask to have a go with the heavier cameras to see how it feels in your hands..

Manny... I wonder if you've tried taking shots in shutter priority?
if you put the shutter speed up higher maybe it'll help freeze your image before it can blur
i do that when shooting from the car when jeff's driving like a bat out of hell or on back country roads
works like a charm
worth a try ;-)

Like Pondy said a camera with image stabalisation is the answer, it works for me Manny....

After an operation on my foot went very wrong I find it difficult staying very still while taking a shot, but with IS on two of my cameras I never ever have had the need for a tripod...don't even own one!

Go to your local camera shop and try a few out, sometimes the heavy camera is much better to hold steady!

Good luck with the search. :-)

Manny I have a very bad hand tremor. My neurologist says to use heavier pens to write with and to use a well balanced heavier camera - as long as it's not too heavy - you will know what I mean, that weight that tips the scale to too heavy and the tremor is just as bad only now it's pronounced because of exceeding the "magic" weight limit.

The advice above is all good. Shoot at higher shutter speeds, use an image stabilized lens and above all - go to a store and hold the camera - not just the body but with lenses that are similar to what you would use.

Most of the current generation of the higher end "enthusiast" DSLRs have really good low light - low noise ratios so you can also bump up your ISO - anything to get that shutter speed up without giving away all your control over DOF.

Good luck - let us know what develops...:-)

How about a monopod as well as IS?

I tried one - I end up swaying back and forth, it's maybe a 10-90 solution for me at best. Worst of all, with just hand tremors - the direction is for the most part consistent. With a monopod - suddenly I have the opportunity to sway 360 different degrees.

It's the same for me with my foot problem Bill, a monopod would just make it much worse!
