I am wondering if any other members have installed the new Service Pack 3 for Windows XP and finds it actually slows their computers down?
Is Microsoft adding something in to SP3 to try and make us all convert to Vista? I would like to try Vista but living in the UK and ever rising prices, affording a legit copy of Vista isn't on the high priority list at the moment.
Has anyone else noticed this problem with SP3?

Yes Geoff is right, I did start a thread about this.... http://forum.fotothing.com/topic/3070/
I have after a lot of research and hard work got my computer back to 'almost' how it was before the service pack, though all of my Window and Dell help files are still missing along with the error reporting files..... But I can live with that !
To do this fix I had to go into the registry and delete thousands of corrupted files, it took me two and a half hours to complete. If you decide to do this you MUST back up the registry first !
If you go to this link...
http://forums.microsoft.com/technet/showpost.aspx?postid=3302530&siteid=17&sb=0&d=1&at=7&ft=11&tf=0&pageid=0 &tf=0&pageid=0
You will find the whole story of the problems many people are having, the forum thread is eleven pages long, but does give in-depth details of how to fix the problems.
There is also a link to a Norton fix tool, though I haven't tried it as I did the manual fix before they posted that.
Be sure to copy and paste the link here, fotothing for some reason doesn't like long links so it's not possible to just click on this one. :-(
Good luck.

Got a quick fix for this guys...
Thanks to a friend that found this trick...
1. Click the "Start Menu"
2. Click "Control Panel", or click "Settings" then "Control Panel"
3. Click on "Add or Remove Programs"
4. On the top of the add/remove programs dialog box, you should see a checkbox that says "show updates". Select this checkbox
5. Scroll down until you see "Security update for Windows (KB951748)"
6. Click "Remove" to uninstall the hotfix

I had already removed service pack 3 through the add/remove.
The problem is... (even Microsoft admit this) ...that the service pack has added extensions to files in the registry that cannot be removed in that way, they had to be removed manually.
I believe now that Norton has come up with an automated tool for doing the job, I don't know if it works as I edited the registry myself.
Depending on which security software you run there are different problems, and not all are obvious until you take an in-depth look around your system.
Take a look at this and follow the links to the threads…

My device manager and network connections were totally missing among other things, that is a common fault.
For some it's impossible to connect to the internet, for others they loose the use of the mouse and keyboard and even the monitor, sometimes the USB ports no longer work.
Others who are not so aware just think that their computer is running very slow, while others think they have a virus....the repair people will love Microsoft for all the extra trade they will be doing because of this !!!
Another thing to watch for is that Microsoft are about to add the service pack to the automated updates, anyone who has their PC set to do that will download it without knowing.
Be careful out there people!

That is for anyone using ZoneAlarm.

It's not the same set of problems if you use Norton Internet Security.
