if everyone starts this exact same topic the forums will crash and burn

Try just going out and commenting on photos. You'll be surprised at the number of people that will come and look at yours.
p.s. We don't RATE photos around here. We comment on them.
And posting some inane thing in a forum begging and pleading just feels so pathetic. Get out and go do it!

There's been a few people asking the same sort of thing, and some of them didn't like some of the comments they got in the past, so it's a bit of a touchy subject. As DS said, photos on this site aren't rated, just commented on, usually in a positive way.
I usually say something like "Be careful what you ask for" on threads like this. Would you really want a grumpy old pro rating your images?

I think gillardj has made a fair point, and didn`t seem at all inane; sometimes constructive feedback can be a real bonus in helping people progress in their photography. On this site photography sometimes to be a secondary thing; there is an element of "friends" collecting long lists of praise for photographs which, (let`s be honest here) are little more than snaps. When I make a positive comment on a photograph, it`s not because I want that person to do the same for me - that way, it becomes meaningless, and, to paraphrase Dragonspeeds` nasty comment, truly pleading. There are some outstanding photographers contributing to this site, and I`m sure their critical comments could help many. Also there`s a simple rule: If you can`t take a critique of your work, don`t show it!

Some people, who are new to FT,especially younger ones would love some feedback but are not sure how to go about getting it.
At the same time,in their mind they don`t feel qualified to give comments,so for a while they are in a catch 22 situation.
And then there are trolls.................

You`re right geoff. perhaps there could be room for an area where beginners could post their work for helpful critique from more experienced photographers, who are obvious from their own body of work. It`s easy to spot a crappy amatuer (I look at one in the mirror most mornings!), and easier to ignore their crappy remarks. We were all beginners once, and I can remember when I needed advice from those more experienced than me. I went on workshops, which were helpful, but I would have given anything to have been able to post my work on t`internet for helpful comments. Sadly, everything was steam powered back then!

You sound as old as the hills :-) like me....I think there is (or was) a section that showed new members.I guess its hard to keep up with so many members though.Overly negative comments can put some people right off from the start.
Every now and again someone will say FT is just a blog but I disagree, its evolved. It can be what ever you want it to be,and there are many talented people here.I`ve learned so much from them, since I joined.

this is a photo BLOG
i hardly think there's a problem with having snapshots on here
Yes this place has evolved and there are so many things going on in every direction and that's what I love about it
and ROFLMAO I just now read

giggle
but it's not JUST a blog.... it's so much more
my main point in what i said way up top is that it seems weird that another topic with the SAME heading was started
start commenting on other peoples photos and they will sometimes come visit your gallery
if you want critiques or advice ASK under the pics... Photopro does that
if you have a particular type of photography you need help with post a specific question under tips maybe
anywho.... back to Sunday relaxation here.... carry on

Thankyou Very much for having this discussion and now i do agree with you Geoff that there should be a site for the beginners as they do need some positive replies but that isn't why i did it it is just that i wanted expert photographers to tell me how to improve my pics :D
