In the account settings bit here I had a message. It said my pro membership was due to expire in say 3 days and to click the button if I wanted to renew it. I didn't, so I didn't click the button. Next thing I know Paypal tell me they paid the subscription. So how did that happen? Now it says it's going to expire in 30 days or so. Presumably if I do not hit the button to authorise renewal you are just going to do it anyway. So how do I stop that from happening? I figure if I am to be given a choice well then I should at least have a choice, or an option to NOT renew my membership. Otherwise what do I do, just cancel the account altogether.
So I hereby give notice that unless I authorise payment by confiming my intent to renew you have no right to just go ahead and take my money. Sound fair enough to me. And having given you notice if you take any more of my money without authorisation then I reckon thats theft.

Perhaps an email to support@fotothing.com would be a little more official than a posting in a forum?
But I do agree... auto renewals are BAD, BAD, BAD!

make sure you check your pay pal acct settings too tho
sometimes it's set up in there to auto pay and so FT has no control over it

I did send them an email and checked my paypal thing. Its not like its a fortune and more the principal I think. I knew there was a button I needed to click, I was just really annoyed to find they had done it anyway. I can live with £2.50 or whatever it is, but why ask you if you want to renew if they just do it anyway!! So was my rant of the day :o) and having spent most of it visitng a client in a psychiatric ward I kind of felt like I needed to vent. Seemed as good a place as any, but perhaps a displacement exercise now I come to think of it....oh well......it says site bugs, and it did bug me!!

that it does!
there's other threads here about this same thing happening
so you aren't alone in this for sure
just seems hit and miss when admin "feels" like talking to us
usually if i say they never respond then they do to prove me wrong
so i'll bless you with a statement of "Don't hold your breath waiting to hear from them!"
you should get an email response within a day LOL

then they will probably just cancel my whole account by mistake!! Its not the pro membership I object to it's sneaking the money out of my pocket when I'm not looking :o)

"Your subscription agreement is with PAYPAL, not Fotothing.
You authorised PAYPAL to take monies and agreed to regular payments thru PAYPALS subscription service.
If you wish to cancel your subscription you will need to do so thru paypal, we cannot cancel it for you."

Right so this was all sorted. I cancelled the subscription with paypal for Fotothing. Confirmed on the account in March 2008. On 16th April 2008 Paypal deducted a further subscription from my account without my consent. That was nearly 10 days ago. My account on FT does not say I am a Pro memeber so where has my money gone. I have made a complaint to Paypal demanding an immediate refund and explaination. Not FT although they say they paid you, so who has my money and where has it gone. I was going to go Pro but not on a monthly payment from my credit card account. I am not even going to consider it until I know what is going on here. Any ideas???

In the scheme of things i guess losing £2.50 or $5 or whatever isn't really such a big deal, but my brain is now working again, well some of it. More curious than anything else. Where's my money???

RememberRonni,
We received a payment from you on 16/4 from paypal for a monthly PRO subscription, however the payment instruction referenced a deleted Fotothing account and not 'RememberRonni'.
While you appear to have had two paypal fotothing subscriptions running, I can only see you ever creating 1 on my paypal subscriptions screen.
I'm on hold to paypal tech support now and will be asking them to clarify how many subscriptions you have had, when they were both started and why I can see two subscriptions taking your money but only one subscription ever created.
I'll email you in an hour or so.

Paypal have admitted that your subscription records are missing information. Am back on hold while Paypal customer support speak to their 'technical department'.
(30 minutes later...)
A Paypal supervisor has agreed there is an issue with the subscription(s). and has issued an action request for more information.
I'm sick of dealing with these idiots. Sadly they are the leader / monopoly in internet payment processing and Fotothing is locked into them for the forseeable future. If I find some time I may offer google checkout as an alternate payment method.
I've cancelled the remaining active subscription and issued refunds for the past two months, let me know when they arrive. I've also added a few months of PRO membership onto your account as an apology.
If paypal ever respond I'll let you know the outcome.

Thanks ever so much Eggy. Wow, didn't expect you to do all that. Really appreciated espcially at the moment. I have to admit I was a bit of a one for deleting myself. Turns out there was a reason for all that as it goes.... Just so glad I can tell everyone about it. I am lucky to be here at all.
Thanks
