Hi there,

please help me, I have a great offer - EOS 350D Digital, with standard zoom lens EF-S 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6, with a battery grip + 1GB CompactFlash.

I want to swich to some better stuff than our small digital Canon digital IXUS 30:-)
Iīve got this proposal from some friend who wants to sell it, this camera is about 1 year old but in a good condition.

What do you think about it?
Shall I buy it or not? is it a good ones? I just want to taking better pictures, donīt know many things about cameras:-)

Thanks a lot my friends and have a nice week! :-)

Barborella.

As well as you, before buying my digital SLR, I was pondering on getting a 350D, and in order to take a decision I read a lot of stuff on that camera on different web sites. What made me given up from becoming a 350D owner is that the kit lens is supposed to be rather poor (actually this is a problem almost all entry level cameras deal with...). Anyway I guess it's not a bad camera, and someday you could change the lens. And since has been overrun by 400D I reckon you could get it for not much money... You may read some remarks here: http://www.dpreview.com/reviews/canoneos350d/page28.asp
Hope I didn't muddle further yours ideas :-)
Have a nice week!

1st - it's a very good camera
2nd - it depends on how good a deal it is, and whether it's worth the $ trade off you would save verses a newer model.

A lot of 350D's are available used - ebay etc so I would check there for a comparison of how good a deal it is

Before you invest in a DSLR, I suggest you decide if you want to lug around a bigger and heavier camera. Check one out at your local store - carry it around a little, practice taking some shots: close regular and far.
Another thing to consider - with the 18-55mm lens, that's only about the equivalent and a 2- 2.5 zoom on a compact. If you want to shoot longer distances you will need to buy a lens(fixed or zoom) that has that has a longer focal length - 150, 200mm etc.

I looked at the specs on your camera - 3mp 3x zoom.... there are also a ton of really good compact cameras that are relatively inexpensive if you decide not to get a DSLR.

Be sure first that the weight and also the lens changes won't be a problem, if you get a better more powerful lens they weigh a lot and are expensive to buy....
You may find like I did after buying the full monty that you prefer a digicam with a powerful zoom.
My whole DSLR kit now sits in the cupboard unloved and unused!

The whole price (also with the bag) is exactly: 487,40 EURO.

that works out to about $679 USD
I can get here in the states a brand new one with the 18-55mm for $535 USD, or the body alone for $450 USD - and add the Sigma 18-200 for $310 - total USD $845 .... with a much more versatile lens. I got this info off of http://www.pricegrabber.com .

im not anti digital compact cameras... but if you are serious about photography then i would stick with the DSLR idea, the 350 is a very nice camera to start from and makes a great second camera if you choose to upgrade at a later date!
you cant beat the versatility of a DSLR when it comes to being that bit more creative!
the body is quite light weight compared to many off the others in that range it fits nicely in to most ladies small hands!
i would totally recommend it, My 16 year old daughter started out with the very same camera!
the 18-55mm lens is a great starter lens for landscapes and close up shots... you will soon find that you are ready for bigger and better lenses as time goes on!
have fun and enjoy

B - You'd be surprised I think that shipping from the states can be sometimes quite inexpensive. I have stuff shipped from Hong Kong to St Louis at incredibly low prices. But I guess my point is that I suggest you compare the price to current new pricing on new models - even the XTi has dropped in price(at least here).
There must be a price comparison website for Europe like Pricegrabber - if so it would be a great place to check.

I would never trade my DSLR in. But it is quite a commitment and is a little like a boat - a hole in the water you keep sinking money into! :-)) Unless you are taking photos for a living - compacts can still provide stunning photos that will work for most other uses.

Good luck whatever you decide.
