I entirely agree with all the points made above by jomoud and others - I pay for PRO membership for several reasons but one of the big reasons is to avoid the ads.
So why bring them back FT - if you want to "try something out" then we should be consulted beforehand!
I'm at work now but I will be repeating jomouds exercise at home later to see how many cookies and other unwanted this FT leaves on my machine - I will keep you posted.
I will also be contacting FT directly to express my concern.

Yeah, and it's clearly gone over like a lead balloon. 'Trying out' sounds so innovative but really you were 'trying out' more ways to make money for yourself.

I am willing to bet that this 'trying out' period lasts forever

As Megmet says, it can put people off going pro - nobody in their right mind is going to use an allowance of 200 pics a day as the biggest draw for going pro!

I have been a member of Dom's site for quite awhile, although my uploads here far outnumber the uploads at that site. The reason I prefer FT over any other site was the ability to interact with the many friends I have made here, such as through messages and the forums..
However, when many friends decide to leave here for elsewhere, then there comes a point that I may have to give up on FT as well.
All through my FT membership I have supported and promoted the site. I can name many others on here who also were instrumental in bringing new members to FT. There are members here, (including me) who supported FT to such an extend that they bought year long memberships for others, just because they believed in the site and wanted to assist friends they made here.
As an appreciation from FT for their support, we get spat in the face with this garbage.
Not even the courtesy of an advance consultation. No warning or request for input.
No, they entered into a contract with paying FT members, took the money, and now just unilaterally break the contract. If they insist on going this route, then they should have had the decency to only change the terms of my contract when it is up for renewal, not before. I can at that time elect to accept the new terms or decline, and revert to non paying member status, or leave for another site.
If I acted like this in my profession I would be reported to the Law Society within a short time.
It tells me that FT and ADVFN does not give a hoot about FT members who have stuck with them and helped build this site to what it is. The fact that many long-time Pro members worked with them and defended them during times of difficult technical problems apparently means zilch to them.
Basic corporate GREED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Unfortunately not the tracking cookies causing the problem meg - I allow Fotothing cookies and the performance is just as slow as it was before the server was replaced. It's not a hardware problem either - it's a coding issue.

BTW, did I say?

I suspect the problem is that the site is not paying for itself.

That said, they should have discussed it in open.

If you wish to make the ads go away then block the google ads site.'pagead2.googlesyndication.com'
an easy way to do this is to edit to HOSTS file in
c:\windows\system32\drivers\etc\hosts

and add the line
127.0.0.1 pagead2.googlesyndication.com

This will point ALL access to google ads to your local machine, which in turn will fail. All ads will be gone, you will however see and error page where the ads were.

great thought, i have been debating going to a stock site but it sounds very complicated to set it all up and such, most of the sites i looked at you had to pay b4 you could even see what you were paying for, ( but maybe discussing stock sites is for another thread) but i do think that would be a great asset for fotothing, and i am sure there are many many other suggestions for fotothing to make money if they would just ask its users what WE want, .... can you imagine a "buy this print" button under your pic,(if u clicked the box to sell it) and you just get a check every month for a percentage of the profit...... i would do it, and they would get way more uploads

Thanks for the feedback. This is just something we're trying out.

Wow .... I have my own web site and I pay for it the same as you PRO's have paid for your own personal privilege of having only your additions on your gallery ..the same as my web site..my web site .my pages, if someone tried out links to there web sites on mine then I can tell you there would be big trouble (for them), I know you have not paid the same Individually for your Pro membership as I have for my Web Pages... but collectively you have paid much much more... but then does the price matter.. you get what you pay for, I did ..but it seems you have not ? this thread worries me :-(

I couldn't agree more Bill..... It's the same with other things that don't work as they should here and its the reason I don't go Pro.
I hate not paying my way on this site, but as long as even basic faults are blamed by admin on Norton Internet Security and nothing is done about them.....I shall not be going Pro!

I remember the "pro member" can of worms I opened a while ago.
It led to friendships, enemies and in a few instances, marriage.
However putting ads on the site to cover the cost of the fees via banner clicks is fine for non-pro's but
for the people who did the banner work bypass ( via paying ) I cant see how the management could have green-lighted this ?
I think you'll find a lot of people will use google / ebay for anything they actually want to find online.
Banners / popups have only been good for one thing :
People making lots of money from selling pop up blocker / anti adware software.

As promised I 'cleaned' my computer tonight using Adaware, only accessed FT and then 'cleaned' it again.
The result - 5 items of spyware in just over one hour, admittedly classified as 'low-risk' but logically they all must have come through the ''something we are trying out" ie the adverts.
My answer? FT stop the ads, stop infecting my computer and stick to your side of the PRO deal!

I don't like it either. The other night, ads on my page allerted me that it was time to reup my PRO payment...but they didn't go away.
I refuse point blank to click on any ad appearing on my fotothing pages.
