I used to run an adfree(the only ads i had were for other free things or services) site.
no google ads or anything in that order.
only problem i had was no one would talk on forums or add pics to the galleries.
It was all left up to me. so the site looked more like "my site".
Well after two yrs of not asking for money from anyone I closed it.
I tried to create the website that is very rare nowadays.
Approx. 300 members and almost 2,000 hits a day.
But seemed like all they wanted was the free stuff and NO ADVERTS.
Any problems i was right there to address or fix them. A lot of work for one person.
If I could have found people like the ones here, the site would still be up.
In summary FOTOTHING WAKE UP and answer these people that pay your paycheck!!!!!!
Before you end up with no revenue at all!!
p.s. I would Gladly start up a new site for the nice people here!!!!

nice site works very much on the same basis its a blog and friendly! not many people on there but stuart is there to police it! worth a look for those that are really peeved

and the info for their premium account , about $25 a year, does NOT give any information with respect to being ad free!!!!

looking around at the sites i think most have the adverts ... with ephotozine i get adverts even though ive upgraded
http://www.eyefetch.com seems to be the best site ive been on as far as adverts go ... but they still have some!
never got on with flickr so i couldn't comment i found the site less than user friendly!

Not to pick on John directly, but it was the easiest quote to grab....
Have any of you ever used Google Adsense from a webmaster's end?
It does NOTHING w.r.t. personal information gathering or tracking. It simply gathers information from the page on which the ad is being displayed and attempts to best match the ad to the topic or demogaphic on the page. Usually foreign language pages show up when you have received a foreign language comment or written something on the page that Andsense picks up as a particular language. PERIOD.
Google's ad engine tries to scan pages periodically so that it can pre-hint itself as to which ads it will need to deliver, but on a dynamic page it's fairly "dynamic" as well. and does it's best to match the new found content. Sometimes well - othertimes, not so much.
Please note that I am NOT weighing in on FT's righteousness (or lack thereof) or on any side of this debate.. I simply don't like seeing Fear Uncertainty and Doubt spread about computers and technology. Have a good (adsensed) day :)

Sorry BluToy, I have not seen you support this site in the past.
If you like many of us had paid yearly fees, you might be upset as well.
Many of us here have paid each year for the last 3 years. That helped FT to give non-paying members like you access to this site.
I do not begrudge you that access, and gladly continue to support FT financially to keep the site accessible to non-paying members.
But I do not think it is too much to demand that FT stick to the agreement in return for our money, and that was
NO ADS ON PRO MEMBER PAGES.
And I have to correct you also on your statement..one or two little ads
the minimum I as a Pro have on my pages is 6-7 ads, some pages 11
by last count in total 183 ads on all pages to which I have access.
