The Epson photo R220 is a fantastic all round printer. You can use a continuous ink supply system too. Then each print works out at peanuts instead of a fortune....Ink cartridges run out as soon as you look at them, its an expensive way to print. :-))
Mine do not fade if placed under glass.Even if they did I would just print another...the ones Ive placed on the wall have been up for over a year now.Colours are just fine.
Do a search on E bay.

Personally I think epsons are the way to go. They really concentrate on their inks. They are constantly perfecting their systems. It also depends what you are planning to use the prints for. If it is personal or professional. The Epson 4100 prints beautifully and if you use image print software with profiles it works out wonderfully. To save on cash try www.newegg.com. They usually have pretty good deals.

to really check on price, I always use at least:
http://www.pricegrabber.com

I consistently get better pricing from a variety of vendors there. there is another site similar to this one, but I can't think of the name right now

seems like a need to compensate for something to me..:-)

A4 has been around as long as I can remember, not actually going to spend time researching it but I think I remember it already being around when I was in the business in the early 90's for computer printers (back when the 1st 5 page/minute black only inkjet cost $650 USD)

metric system (frames)

remember when they said we'd convert to it, just because it was a base 10 system - never mind how ridiculous some of the measurements are.....:-))
