Today Kodak announced that it will enter the deskjet printer market.
Their entry may have an effect on ink cartridge prices in general.
Kodak's printers will be priced HIGHER than it's competitors and will have a price range from $150 to $300 (US).
However, the print cartridges for these printers will be about 50% lower priced than the competitor's cartridges. Kodak indicated that their cartridges will be priced about 50% lower than others and range in the $15 to $25. (B&W to Color).
It may cause other manufacturers to be forced to lower their prices.
HP which has 46% of the market, currently has their cartridges retailing in the $30 to $45 range depending on B&W or color. Epson, Canon etc are about the same.
It will be interesting to see what will happen.

Yes, I saw that.
It was getting so that it was cheaper to buy a whole new printer rather than buy new ink. Stupid world sometimes.
I think this will will have a generally downward pressure on ink if Kodak can manage to penetrate tthe market to any extent. Always tough to crack a market, coming in with a higher base pricepoint, even if you have a lower TCO.

A couple of years ago a local promotion meant that cheap Epson printers cost less than the ink cartridge. I bought 5.
